Vancouver Washington Loves Talent Oregon: A story of one community reaching out to another

by Debra

On Saturday, September 26, 2020, a large Suburban-type vehicle arrived in Talent with a load of supplies for Almeda Fire victims. Thanks to the generosity of many Vancouver residents, food, clothing, shoes, toys, small furniture, and household items were delivered just a few weeks after the fire to victims who had lost homes and belongings.

This outpouring to our community was organized by my dear adopted daughter, Judy, and her neighbor Mike, of Vancouver Washington. They solicited donations through their workplaces and their neighborhood. They got enough items to completely fill their giant vehicle. Then they drove it down and drove back in the same weekend, so as not to miss work.

They unloaded all goods into my garage and for several weeks afterward myself and some friends sorted through all the donations and distributed them to individuals we knew who needed them, to fire relief centers and second-hand stores.

What a sweet, unselfish act this was. Thank you, Vancouver, Washington!
